The Story Behind the Shot
Y'all, this shot almost didn't happen. I had this big plan on my first day in the Canadian Rockies. I wanted to drive the entire Icefields Parkway from Calgary to Jasper in one day. Most folks told me I was crazy. Honestly, they weren't wrong. The Icefields Parkway takes way longer than you think. You can't help but stop every few miles when the views are amazing.
But I had a tight timeline. I was set on making it to Jasper in time for a glacier tour. They were closing for the season soon. That tight schedule turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I rolled up to Athabasca Falls just after sunset. Mother Nature put on one heck of a show. The waterfall was roaring with autumn meltwater. The mountains were glowing in that perfect blue hour light. Those golden clouds above were pure magic. I didn't get into Jasper until well after dark. But man, was this shot worth the adventure.
