The Story Behind the Shot
Y'all, this shot almost didn't happen. I had this ambitious plan on my first day in the Canadian Rockies – drive the entire Icefields Parkway from Calgary to Jasper in one day. Most folks told me I was crazy, and honestly, they weren't wrong. The Icefields Parkway is notorious for taking way longer than you think because you can't help but stop every few miles when the views are this incredible.
But I had a rigid timeline – I was determined to make it to Jasper in time for a glacier tour before they closed for the season. That tight schedule turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I rolled up to Athabasca Falls just after sunset, and Mother Nature put on one heck of a show. The waterfall was roaring with autumn meltwater, the mountains were glowing in that perfect blue hour light, and those golden clouds above? Pure magic. I didn't get into Jasper until well after dark, but man, was this shot worth the adventure.
