The Story Behind the Shot

This wildlife photography print wasn't what I planned to capture that day. I was in koala country on Raymond Island. I was following the koala trail with my 400mm lens ready. I wanted to find those hard-to-spot eucalyptus dwellers. I had made it through the neighborhood section. I was heading into the protected habitat when I rounded a corner. I found myself face-to-face with this beautiful lady and her mob. They were standing in the middle of the trail like they owned it.

Her companions eventually wandered off. But this gorgeous girl decided she wasn't moving. She stood there like a perfect portrait subject. Her eyes were locked on my camera. She was completely unbothered by my presence. Sometimes the best shots happen when you least expect them. I came for koalas but left with one of my favorite wildlife portraits ever.
