The Story Behind the Shot

You think you're just watching some sea lions. Then a big fight breaks out right in front of a volcano. The same great day on the Salish Sea brought me many great shots. This day had one final surprise waiting for us.

We worked our way around the other side of Orca Rock. We saw this amazing shot that had me grabbing my long lens. I quickly swapped to compress the background. This technique makes the huge Mount Baker feel right there with these fighting sea lions. It creates a unique view you can't see with your eyes. It's one of those rare moments when nature lines everything up perfectly.

This shot reminds me why I love these wild trips. You never know what epic stories are happening around us. You have to be right there to see them. Sometimes the best wildlife photography happens when you least expect it. 🥊
